Paper Portrait

This is a simple rainy day project which is fun to make also.
Things you'll need:
1. A photograph (with clear face view for portrait)
2. Different colored paper
3. Pencil, glue, scissors, x-acto knife (optional)
4. Heavy cardstock paper for backing
5. Crayons(optional)
6. Acrylic paints (optional)

Step 1
Step 1: Start with the photo you selected. Crop and enlarge the photo to the size of paper portrait you wish to make. Also make sure to edit the photo
so that different colors and highlights of face shows.

Step 2
Step 2: From the cropped & edited photo above either take a printout or trace directly from the computer. Mark the outlines of the face and other features. Clean out the tracing you just created join single lines in a form of shape and clear out extra lines. Make 2-3 copies of the finished trace.

Step 3

Step 3: This step is optional but it helps to decide the colors for the portrait.  Take your crayon and fill them in each of the form.

Step 4
Step 4: This is also optional but if you are not able to find the appropriate color you can also colour some paper using acrylic paints and then cut that paper in each form.
 .
Step 5: Now take the tracing that you created in step 2/3 and cut each shape and trace and cut them from colored paper you have selected. Keep in mind that if some shapes overlap each other in that case cut the larger piece and attach the smaller piece on top of that e.g. for eye instead of cutting upper lid , white part and lower lid separate and attaching, cut white piece larger and attach both the lids to it and then attach this to the face. This will create depth in the portrait.
Repeat this step for all the separate shapes that you have traced in step 2 and glue them to the heavy card stock paper.

Negative Space watercolor painting

Completed!!
I recently took a skillshare class  on watercolor painting techniques and learned a lot from the class. (https://www.skillshare.com/classes/crafts/Watercolor-and-Mixed-Media/6243591/classroom/discussions?via=user-profile&enrolledRedirect=1).

This is wet on wet watercolor technique where you add different colors while the previous color is still wet.

The picture I used is inspired from the pic I took of dervish from my recent travel. I made this for a friend for Eid.
